Company bio

Canadian Wollastonite (CW) owns and operates a world-class industrial minerals resource called the Saint Lawrence Wollastonite Deposit north-east of Kingston, Ontario. Of the 204 hectares at the mine site, 170 hectares are enhanced environmentally to mitigate the effects of the above-ground mine, including the creation of 12 hectares of ponds and 15,000 trees planted to date.

CW produces refined and unrefined wollastonite for use in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, environmental remediation, wastewater treatment, metallurgy, carbon capture, and cement industries. Leveraging wollastonite’s unique properties, CW is actively building retail markets with in-house brands: CW Grow (farm and garden soil amendment), CW Grit & Grab (eco-traction sand), and CW Ponds+ (algae control). In addition, CW supplies performance aggregates into the transportation sector.

The calcium in wollastonite has shown exceptional promise in capturing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while supplying calcium to plants in agricultural and forest soils. The combination of forest growth and inorganic carbon capture can result in capturing 9x the tonnage of wollastonite applied. CW recently initiated large-scale experiments to unlock wollastonite’s economic carbon-capturing potential.
