Carbon mineralization
Canada can remove carbon from the atmosphere while also cleaning up its mine tailings and industrial waste. Think of carbon mineralization as nature's recycling program - when CO₂ comes into contact with certain minerals found in mine tailings and industrial byproducts, a chemical reaction occurs that traps the carbon away permanently.
Carbon mineralization turns carbon dioxide into stone and, once it's locked in these minerals, the carbon stays put for thousands of years. This process can happen both above ground, in industrial facilities, and below ground, in natural rock formations.
Carbon mineralization allows Canada to turn its massive mine tailings and industrial waste liabilities into profitable carbon removal assets, creating new revenue streams for mining companies while solving costly environmental cleanup challenges using existing industrial infrastructure.
