Direct ocean removal

Think of our oceans and rivers as giant sponges that constantly absorb CO₂ from the atmosphere. While this natural process helps reduce atmospheric carbon, it makes our waters more acidic - like adding vinegar to a fish tank - which harms marine life and water quality.

Direct Ocean Removal (DOR) technologies work like sophisticated water purifiers, separating CO₂ or hydrochloric acid from water bodies and storing it underground, or converting it into useful products. This process gives our oceans a cleanup, removing excess acidity while capturing carbon for permanent storage.

DOR offers Canada a chance to restore its coastal ecosystems and protect fishing communities, while creating new opportunities that build on Canada's existing water treatment expertise and underground storage capabilities. With DOR, we can generate economic returns from protecting marine resources worth billions to the Canadian economy.
