There is carbon capture opportunity in the hundreds of millions of hectares of former forests that lie degraded and unusable. But for the more than 2 billion people living in rural poverty, replanting tree covers for CC adaptation and mitigation must go hand in hand with higher sustainable agricultural yields. DTEC projects will include new regenerative agricultural initiatives.
For humanity to survive runaway climate change, rural farmers and Indigenous peoples must be empowered to escape from the vicious cycle of poverty that accounts for 15% of global emissions.
